How to Get the Engagement Ring You Really Want While the engagement ring is nowhere near the most important part about getting married, it’s a fun aspect that you’ve been dreaming about since you were little. But knowing what ring you want and getting that ring are two totally different things. You’re going to need a plan. Tips and Strategies for Getting Your Dream Ring  Engagement rings have been a symbol of love, marriage, and fidelity for centuries. In fact, the sense of mystique surrounding engagement rings has arguably grown over the years â€" thanks in large part to the individual platforms people have on social networking sites like Instagram and Pinterest. You’re constantly exposed to engagement rings â€" both subtly and overtly â€" which has probably led you to develop a very specific idea of the style of ring you want. But how you can make sure you get the engagement and wedding ring of your dreams? While you don’t want to cross any boundaries and take control of a decision that is ultimately up to your soon-to-be fiancé, there are some small things you can do â€" some discreet and others more obvious â€" to increase your chances of getting the perfect ring. Take a look: The Direct Approach  Are you pretty adamant about getting the exact ring you want? Does your boyfriend want your opinion on the matter? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then you may want to take the Direct Approach of simply showing him what rings you like and which ones you don’t. This takes away the element of surprise but that’s probably a good thing. The Informant Technique  Less subtle than the direct approach, yet still effective, the Informant Technique involves telling someone â€" likely your mom, sister, or best friend â€" what type of ring you want. They can then casually relay the message to your boyfriend when he begins the ring shopping process. This allows you to be a little more hands-off, while still ensuring your opinion is heard. The Forgetful Girlfriend Approach  Now we’re getting into some creative approaches that are a little more discreet than simply telling him what you want. We’ll call this the “Forgetful Girlfriend Approach,” and it involves leaving a web page open on your computer so your boyfriend “stumbles” upon it. For example, let’s say you really want a uniquely styled antique ring â€" such as one from this collection. You would simply “forget” to close out the page, which would make your boyfriend feel as if he stumbled upon your secret. It’s a subtle way of helping him make the right choice. The Commentary Approach  You might feel like your boyfriend doesn’t listen to you, but he picks up on more than you think. That’s why the Commentary Approach works well, especially if you’re patient enough to execute it over a long period of time. With the Commentary Approach, you simply make verbal comments about rings you do and don’t like. Whether it’s a friend, relative, or someone on TV, you just say things like, “Oh, that’s an absolutely beautiful ring. I love that.” or “I would never pick out a ring like that for myself.” There’s no need to direct these comments specifically at him. Just say them out loud like you’re talking to yourself. Focus on What Matters  While it’s fun to think about getting the perfect engagement ring, don’t get so caught up in mentally shopping for a ring that you forget about the things that really matter. You’re about to spend the rest of your life with the man of your dreams. The ring is just a big, sparkly bonus.

RECRUITERS Use LinkedIn Publisher, Even if You Dont Have it! Do you have LinkedIn Publisher? Do you even know what I am talking about?  Its a relatively new feature on LinkedIn.  If you have it you will see a pencil in your  share an update field on your LinkedIn home page. Ive had it for a while and for the record, I am totally loving it.   I love it so much that I post regularly (weekly) content on it and it has massively improved my LinkedIn profile views and overall visibility. I’ve even created video to help you lovely recruiters see how you can get the most out of â€" even if you have absolutely nothing to say and no time to say it! I review why you should publish content and give you some nifty tips on how to use LinkedIn Publisher. (Images, YouTube videos, headings and link…) I review how to get your Twitter followers to get engaged with your LinkedIn profile so you can widen your community I review how you can see who is following you and thus your posts (even if they’re not connected to you, and some interesting stats around this Bear in mind that if you do not have the magic pencil in your status update window on your homepage, you may be able to apply for LinkedIn Publisher here: http://specialedition.linkedin.com/publishing/ it states that the waiting list is full and to keep checking back… I review why you should NOT use it for jobs (and I know that some of you naughty recruiters are). I review how you can follow people on LinkedIn without being connected to them (FBI style) I review how to attract attention with LinkedIn Publisher â€" without publishing anything at all (magic!) I created a LinkedIn Publisher post recently about How Recruiters can Actually Use Twitter.   It did pretty well and as a result, it trended in LinkedIn’s Pulse (nice!)   This of course got it seen by loads more people and gave me more profile views and of course connections.  Aiming to get your content onto Pulse (look at your LinkedIn homepage) is a great goal to have as it helps gain even more traction from not only your  own community, but that of the wider LinkedIn network.  Its pretty hard to get that level of trending though, but I have to meet a recruiter  who didnt like a challenge! You can search for posts in your drop down search bar, so if youre into Twitter, assessment, the economy, that feature could work for you.  I’m not mad about the lack of search filters in this, but at least I can search by keyword. Rousing Review The Art of Earning

Rousing Review The Art of Earning I devored The Art of Earning* a few weeks ago. I know, I know, it launched eons ago, but I put it into my To Read folder on  Dropbox and then, well, let it gather dust. Sigh. When I was on the subway with a read New York magazine, I clicked over to my To Read folder and re-found The Art of Earning, silently beckoning me. I love me some Tara Gentile (did ya hear that well be presentin at SXSW together, along with Molly Mahar of Stratejoy?) and this topic feeling that making money isnt greedy or slimy or what-a-nice-person-does hits home for both myself and the large majority of my clients. I also knew that I have a price hike in my future and it was, honestly, freaking me the hell out. Crunching The Numbers told me to charge 60% more than I do now, but it looked way too  significant/scary for me to commit to and I immediately balked. While I know that I wont put that number into effect, itll definitely be significant-ish. Can ya tell Im still rolling the number around in my head? Anyways, I usually read stuff that I know Im gonna use as a Rousing Review with my iPhone Notes handy, jotting down passages and exercises I loved and questions I had and anything else I wanna include in my post. But this time, I wrote down nada. Not because there was nothing that struck me quite the contrary. I was so enthralled by what I was reading I forgot to take my Reviewer point of view! So, as I look back on what I took away in general, its nothing short of a whole new perspective. Tara talks about becoming a marketer of meaning. Its about owning your worth, your talent, your style, and your skills (I dont care if youre one of a million jewelry designers on Etsy you still have a unique worth, talent, style and skill) and realizing that youre valuable. What you produce whether its a product or a service is your customers or clients gain. They value the craftsmanship in your necklace, or the colors in your photos, or copy you create for them to use. The more money youre making, the more value youre giving to the world. Youve become A Marketer of Meaning. Yes yes, I know its easier said than done. I know its a matter of self-confidence and trust and fear and your personal relationship with money and all those emotional Vampires that come into play. But the beauty of  The Art of Earning is that Tara knows that, understands that, and addresses that. She not only tells you that theres no way youre gonna become Bernie Madoff (because you so wont), but she has a way of writing that allows you to really shift your perspective yes, even the one that says I wont be able to be a  successful  solopreneur ever. Stability only comes with a steady paycheck. People, theres a whole chapter on that! Dont take my word for it, though. Here are some of my favorite questions she posed: How do you approach earning money? Spending it? Investing it? What emotions do you assume your customer feels after buying from you? What more can you do by allowing more money to flow through you? And while I didnt count the questions, Id guess theres about 2 dozen more. Such good perspective-shifting, such great a-ha! moments, such great forming-a-plan action items.and while its priced at $25, you can pay what you can. Ah,  The Art of Earning, you live up to your subtitle and make making money beautiful. *yup, this is my affiliate link.
