What Makes an Home Office Truly Contemporary

What Makes an Home Office Truly Contemporary Photo Credit â€" Pexels.comNowadays, home offices are not just a place to work but an extension of your personality and preferred style â€" just like the rest of your home. It doesn’t matter whether you place it in a separate room or use the space under your stairs, your home office should be set up in accordance with your taste and style.Contemporary home décor means sophisticated furniture, simple forms, and functionality above all so here’s how to set it up properly in your own home.1. Light it up naturallyThis might depend on of the position your home office has in your house but you should know that lighting is very important. Not only does it boost productivity and help you stay awake, but it’s also an inherent part of the contemporary interior design.evalReconsider positioning your desks near a window to achieve that airy, contemporary look and ventilate often so the fresh air can clarify your mind.Of course, too much light can be stressful to your eyes and, therefore, contra productive, so shades or curtains are a necessity. If you work at night then high-quality artificial lighting should be your priority. The winning combination is a good combination of overhead and focused lighting, experts from the field claim.2. Add artsy touchesAs we already mentioned, your home office should be an extension of your taste so use your artistic side to decorate it properly. Create a focal point above your desk or, better yet, on the opposite wall by adding a piece of art, motivational posters, graphics, or whatever you like.Don’t cover the walls of your home office only with sticky notes, calendars, and reminders â€" you’ll need something to rest your eyes on from time to time. It certainly is better than taking a break by watching a TV or browsing the internet.Besides, a study showed that experiencing art decreases the stress level and helps with sleep and memory problems â€" what more a tired home worker can wish for?3. Decorate boldlyDecorating your hom e office with traditional furniture in, let’s say, dark wood hues is great, but the contemporary interior design is all about reinventing bold shapes and accent colours. This is especially valuable if your home office space is rather small â€" light, vivid colours will make it look bigger while geometrically shaped furniture will provide fresh, neat, and clean ambiance.evalIt’s all about sharp lines and contrast colours but also â€" comfort. When picking up the furniture, don’t forget that you are about to spend eight or more hours using it every day.Ergonomically designed chair should be on top of your shopping list, as it will provide you with precious back support, promote good posture and save you some money on future medical bills.4. Think minimalA minimalist approach in interior design came from Scandinavia. It’s characterized by simplicity and functionality so it’s no wonder why it became instantly popular all over the world, especially when it comes to home office design. On the other hand, clutter can distract you and negatively affect your ability to focus and process information. That’s why keeping only essential things in your home office is a good choice â€" it’ll be easier to clean, nothing will drag away your attention, and, what’s also very important â€" it will look marvellously trendy. Don’t let stationery nor files pile up on your desk and around the room â€" make sure you have some kind of storage space on your home office furniture shopping list.5. Don’t forget about securityevalAlong with all the freedom and flexibility of the modern home office comes the peril of security issues that might occur outside the protected network.Even if your business has virtual private network (VPN) access that prevents hacks, your computer still needs a trusted anti-virus solution for commercial use. In addition, disallowing family members the access to your work unit will further increase data security. And while virtual security is trem endously important, ensuring the physical security of your home office is equally important, as there is often expensive equipment or physical files containing sensitive information in it.Based on the needs of your office, an appropriate home security system and the services of your local 24-hour locksmith will prevent unwanted physical intrusions. With the development of new technologies and working fields, working from home became a sort of necessity.People no longer use their home offices for wrapping up things left unfinished during work hours but spend their full time working from their homes. That’s why setting up a trendy yet functional home office is a must. Make it contemporary and you’ll surely finish any task with ease.

Rousing Review The Art of Earning

Rousing Review The Art of Earning I devored The Art of Earning* a few weeks ago. I know, I know, it launched eons ago, but I put it into my To Read folder on  Dropbox and then, well, let it gather dust. Sigh. When I was on the subway with a read New York magazine, I clicked over to my To Read folder and re-found The Art of Earning, silently beckoning me. I love me some Tara Gentile (did ya hear that well be presentin at SXSW together, along with Molly Mahar of Stratejoy?) and this topic feeling that making money isnt greedy or slimy or what-a-nice-person-does hits home for both myself and the large majority of my clients. I also knew that I have a price hike in my future and it was, honestly, freaking me the hell out. Crunching The Numbers told me to charge 60% more than I do now, but it looked way too  significant/scary for me to commit to and I immediately balked. While I know that I wont put that number into effect, itll definitely be significant-ish. Can ya tell Im still rolling the number around in my head? Anyways, I usually read stuff that I know Im gonna use as a Rousing Review with my iPhone Notes handy, jotting down passages and exercises I loved and questions I had and anything else I wanna include in my post. But this time, I wrote down nada. Not because there was nothing that struck me quite the contrary. I was so enthralled by what I was reading I forgot to take my Reviewer point of view! So, as I look back on what I took away in general, its nothing short of a whole new perspective. Tara talks about becoming a marketer of meaning. Its about owning your worth, your talent, your style, and your skills (I dont care if youre one of a million jewelry designers on Etsy you still have a unique worth, talent, style and skill) and realizing that youre valuable. What you produce whether its a product or a service is your customers or clients gain. They value the craftsmanship in your necklace, or the colors in your photos, or copy you create for them to use. The more money youre making, the more value youre giving to the world. Youve become A Marketer of Meaning. Yes yes, I know its easier said than done. I know its a matter of self-confidence and trust and fear and your personal relationship with money and all those emotional Vampires that come into play. But the beauty of  The Art of Earning is that Tara knows that, understands that, and addresses that. She not only tells you that theres no way youre gonna become Bernie Madoff (because you so wont), but she has a way of writing that allows you to really shift your perspective yes, even the one that says I wont be able to be a  successful  solopreneur ever. Stability only comes with a steady paycheck. People, theres a whole chapter on that! Dont take my word for it, though. Here are some of my favorite questions she posed: How do you approach earning money? Spending it? Investing it? What emotions do you assume your customer feels after buying from you? What more can you do by allowing more money to flow through you? And while I didnt count the questions, Id guess theres about 2 dozen more. Such good perspective-shifting, such great a-ha! moments, such great forming-a-plan action items.and while its priced at $25, you can pay what you can. Ah,  The Art of Earning, you live up to your subtitle and make making money beautiful. *yup, this is my affiliate link. But ya know by now that I dont put my Happy Hooplah stamp on anything I dont find amazeballs. So you can trust me. Pinky swear.

Richard Branson on His Dyslexia and the Best Advice He Got

Richard Branson on His Dyslexia and the Best Advice He Got Even billionaires need advice. For Richard Branson, the best advice he’s ever received is just three words: “Sue the bastards.” Branson spoke Monday at the Forbes 30 Under 30 Conference in Boston. The British billionaire, answering a question from the audience, said he considered Sir Freddie Laker, a fellow airliner, a sort of mentor. And three or four years before Branson and Virgin Air sued rival British Airways for libel, Laker’s advice was to do just that. Branson also gave advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, and discussed how his dyslexia made him the person he is today, saying it helped him simplify messages and delegate tasks out to competent people. “I wouldn’t have started my business if I wasn’t dyslexic,” Branson said. “I was hopeless at school, I was hopeless at things I wasn’t interested in.” “When I talk to kids with dyslexia, I say follow the things you’re good at and excel at those, and get other people to do the rest,” he continued. The mogul, with a current net worth of $4.9 billion, went on to emphasize the importance of remembering that work isn’t everything. “The first thing you should do as entrepreneur is find people better than you to run your business day-to-day,” he said. “You should have a good social life, you should be able to spend a lot of time with your family, your children, focus on your health.”

Top Social Networking Sites for Job Seekers - Work It Daily

Top Social Networking Sites for Job Seekers - Work It Daily If you’re looking to make the most of the Internet in your job search, make sure to check out the following websites and applications: Twitter You can raise your visibility as a job seeker or expert in your field by using Twitter to participate in discussions on topics that you are well versed in. This will position you as a knowledgeable professional. Job seekers need to be on Twitter because recruiters are using it to source candidates by searching for keywords in their bios. I suggest job seekers put a link to their LinkedIn profiles or web resumes so recruiters can go to another site for more in-depth information since Twitter’s strength is its brevity. Twellow.com You can expand your network by finding thought leaders and other professionals in your field using Twellow.com. Twellow has many different categories you can search for people by. Since you don’t need anyone’s permission to follow them (unless their tweets are protected), you can follow anyone you like, and most people will follow you back. You can also check to see who the people you are following are retweeting. Those people may be good for you to follow as well. TweetMyJobs.com To find open positions I recommend job seekers use TweetMyJobs.com. It is a service that provides instant notification of jobs to job seekers via text message, and it takes about eight seconds to apply for a position. Job seekers can subscribe to as many of the more than 7,500 channels as they like, specifying job titles and geographic locations. You can follow TweetMyJobs on Twitter at @TweetMyJOBS. LinkedIn Many recruiters are searching social media sites for candidates instead of posting positions on job boards. They check out potential candidates’ profiles on LinkedIn before contacting them. In addition to creating a profile on LinkedIn, job seekers can raise their visibility on LinkedIn by participating in groups and answering questions on the Answers section on LinkedIn. Recruiters have a favorable view of candidates who earn Best Answer by providing thoughtful answers to questions posed on the Answers section. Also, I recommend job seekers use the Jobs section on LinkedIn to find open positions. LinkedIn will automatically notify you of any connections you have to the company that has the job vacancy. This is a very useful feature since it’s always helpful to try to network your way in to a company. Facebook You can join groups on Facebook that based on topics that interest you as a job seeker. Once you are a member of a group you can then identify people in the group who you want to friend. Group members are likely to be very open to friending you because you already have the group in common. You might say something like, “I see we are both members of the Accountants in Government group. I am very interested in connecting with other professionals in the field, and I would like for you to join my network.” This is a great way to grow your network and find out about job opportunities. Easy CV You can use this application on Facebook to post a mini version of your resume on your Facebook profile. Brave New Talent This is a social networking application that allows you to connect with employers directly and join employers’ online communities.
